The latest Motability Scheme EV Transition Tracker shows confidence in electric vehicles (EVs) is holding steady - but significant barriers continue to slow adoption, particularly for disabled drivers.

Public sentiment split on EVs

While rising fuel prices are strengthening the long-term case for EVs, concerns around charging access, affordability and future policy changes are creating uncertainty at a critical point in the transition.

  • 39% of the UK public feel positively towards EVs
  • UK drivers who would not consider buying an EV fell from 36% in August to 30% in November.
  • Just 27% of disabled customers on the Motability Scheme feel the same way.
  • But 85% of Motability Scheme customers already driving electric have a positive view towards them.

Charging access continues to be a major barrier

Without reliable and accessible charging infrastructure, many drivers remain hesitant to switch to EVs and take advantage of the lower refuelling costs EVs can offer.
